MACHO Project Domain, Field and Template Image Specifications

All MACHO data is now available via IVOA compliant services located at http://macho.anu.edu.au

The new MACHO data services are fully compliant with current Virtual Observatory service standards, as specified by the IVOA. For full information on service standards, refer to the IVOA standards documentation.

For a brief description of the new services provided, see the user guide. For a brief description of how to perform some common data access tasks with them, see the how-to guide.

Coordinates define opposite corners of the bounding box which minimally encompasses either the Domain or Field. All coordinates are J2000.

For each Field, template image identifiers (Template ObsId) are also included. The side of the MACHO telescope pier on which a template image was taken is indicated as East or West. If no template image was defined, the entry is none.

A template image may be downloaded by selecting the highlighted template observation identifier. Image retrieval can be slow due to the media used and the image size. Images are approximately 75Mbytes uncompressed . The back-end storage archive requires at least 2 minutes for initial tape loading.
